Durban — A Shallcross family are still reeling from shock after they were held up and robbed in their home on Friday.
The family were in their home in Harinagar Road when four men entered their home and held them up at gunpoint at 9am.
Private security company Siyaya Reaction Unit spokesperson Irvine Nagooran said the homeowner stated that four men carrying handguns entered the property posing as buyers of fabric.
“Thereafter they had tied the homeowner and his family with cable ties inside the premises and ransacked the house for cellphones, cash, jewellery and other items. None of the family were injured but they were in shock,” Nagooran said.
According to Nagooran, the family is still recovering from the incident.
He warned others to be cautious when doing business from home.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that according to the 60-year-old complainant, on August 12,, at 9am he received a call from a customer who informed him that they were coming to buy material at his business premises in Shallcross.
“He opened up his premises for the three males who then told him to open for the fourth male. They then pointed firearms at him, demanding cash and cellphones, and they fled,” Ngcobo said.
A case of business robbery was opened at Chatsworth.
Meanwhile, the Shallcross Community Police sub-forum is expected to hold a safety and awareness family day on August 20 at the Shallcross Stadium. The SAPS Chatsworth and law enforcement will have displays and demonstrations.
