DURBAN - Three people were shot dead and one was left in a critical condition during a shooting incident west of Pietermaritzburg on Friday afternoon, however, the fourth person died after hospital arrival.
On Sunday, Midlands EMS spokesperson Roland Robertson confirmed to the Daily News that the critically injured patient had died after being taken to hospital.
On Friday, Robertson had said Midlands Howick and PMB advanced life support ambulances were dispatched to the Gezubuso area in response to a shooting incident.
“Upon arrival, it was found three people sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on scene, whilst one other one was in a critical condition and required urgent advanced life support intervention being placed on a manual ventilator,” Robertson said.
He said the patient was transported in a critical condition to a nearby hospital for further care.
“It is alleged that an argument had begun between the people before the shooting had taken place,” Robertson said.
He added that the exact cause of the incident was under investigation by local authorities.
Police had not commented by the time of publication.
