DURBAN - A man was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend’s son during an altercation at their Maple Drive home in Trenance Park, Verulam, on Friday night.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspect’s mother alleged that she was with her boyfriend, Dino Subramoney Pillay, outside when an argument between them ensued. The deceased was swearing at her, therefore she went into the house to avoid him. He then followed her inside and he started strangling her. Her son, 24, who has not been named, got involved to assist her and the two of them got into a fight with the deceased.

The suspect’s mother then said that at that stage she took her child, aged 2, and ran outside the house. When she returned after a few minutes she saw her boyfriend lying on the passage floor in the house.

“The deceased was found with multiple stab wounds to his body. The clothes of the suspect were covered with lots of blood and the girlfriend also had blood on her clothes and feet. The murder weapon, a knife, was seized. Both suspects were arrested at the crime scene,” Mbele said.

Verulam police are investigating a case of murder.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said Pillay, 47, died after he was stabbed repeatedly by his girlfriend’s son.

Balram said a resident contacted Rusa at approximately 10.15pm requesting assistance for the critically injured man.

Rusa officers and paramedics were immediately dispatched and on arrival directed to the scene.

“The victim was located lying in a pool of blood in the passage. Upon examination, he was found to have sustained 12 stab wounds to his back, chest and face. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased by medics,” Balram said.

He said it was alleged that the deceased and his partner were involved in an argument when her son intervened. During an altercation, the deceased was repeatedly stabbed. Her son fled but later returned while first responders were attending to the scene. His clothing was drenched in blood.
