Durban – Three alleged business robbers were arrested and two pistols and five rounds of ammunition were seized by police outside Durban.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that on Saturday at 3.45pm, a joint operation was conducted after a report of a robbery in Richmond.
Gwala said it was reported that the robbery suspects were heading towards Pietermaritzburg along the R56.
Security company Magma Security and Investigations, who were involved in the police operation, said the suspects were in a Honda.
Gwala said it was alleged that four armed men entered a business premises on Chilley Street in Richmond and held up the employees at gunpoint. They stole cash from the till, two speakers and cellphones before fleeing.
“All main exit routes in the area were blocked. The suspect’s vehicle was spotted travelling on the R603 towards the N3 freeway and a chase ensued. The vehicle was stopped at the bottom of Key Ridge,” Gwala explained.
“Three suspects were arrested and were found in possession of pistols as well as five rounds of ammunition and a pellet gun. They were also found in possession of four cellphones and other property that had been stolen during the robbery. The suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other serious and violent cases. Police seized the vehicle used by the suspects for further investigation.”
Gwala said that the suspects were expected to appear before the Hammarsdale Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
