Durban - Two eThekwini Municipality refuse workers were left injured after the truck they were travelling in overturned on the southbound lane of the R102 in the vicinity of Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban, on Wednesday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said passing motorists contacted Rusa at 12.47pm requesting assistance for the occupants of the bin truck.

“On arrival, reaction officers discovered the MAN truck lying on its side. The driver and his passenger were being treated for their injuries by medics from a private ambulance service,” Balram said.

He said traffic was restricted to one lane, which resulted in delays for motorists.

Balram added that the circumstances leading up to the accident have not been established.

Last month, Cuttings Fishing Forum shared images of a municipal parks department vehicle that sank into a pavement.

The forum said: “After notifying people, nobody listens. Even the chevron tapes got removed. Now we have a municipal truck sink in, tomorrow it could be worse.”
