Durban - Two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash on the N11 near Albert Wessels, Newcastle, northern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday morning.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance spokesperson Craig Botha said the ambulance service responded to the N11 near Albert Wessels intersection for reports of a collision.

Botha said when emergency services arrived, they found that a truck, bus and bakkie had been involved in a collision.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two patients had sustained critical injuries, one patient had sustained serious injuries and a further patient sustained minor injuries,” Botha said.

He said the patients were treated on scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.

“Sadly two occupants had sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived,” Botha said.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a case of culpable homicide was opened for investigation at Newcastle police station.

“It is alleged that this morning on N11 northbound at 8.30am, the driver of the bakkie lost control and collided with both truck and the bus. Both occupants in the bakkie were confirmed dead on the scene,” Ngcobo said.

Ngcobo said the truck driver and the bus driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
