Durban – Two security guards were shot dead within hours in Shallcross on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in two separate incidents.

Amawele Emergency Services responded to both incidents.

Spokesperson Claude Subramodey said that on Wednesday morning, the emergency service was called out to a church in Shallcross after a security guard was shot.

“The accident response unit arrived on scene to find a black male in his 30s shot in the face with no signs of life and was declared dead on the scene,” Subramodey said.

He said all role-players were contacted and the body was handed over to the police for investigations.

On Tuesday night, the emergency service was called out to Jamaica garage in Shallcross after reports of an armed robbery.

“The accident response unit and crew arrived on the scene within minutes to find that a security guard had been shot.

“Sadly there was nothing more that could be done for him because he had no signs of life and was declared dead on the scene,” Subramodey said.

“The cashier was assaulted and robbed.”

Subramodey said the security guard’s body was handed over to the police.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said police responded to a report of a murder at a business and proceeded to the scene.

When police arrived, they found the body of a 48-year-old man lying in the toilet with three gunshot wounds.

“It is alleged by the complainant that while they were performing their duties they were accosted by eight armed men who demanded cash before fatally shooting a security guard. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and drove away in their gateway vehicles,” Gwala said.

She said charges of murder and robbery were opened at Chatsworth SAPS for investigation.
