Durban - The uMngeni Local Municipality is looking to hire a “suitably qualified and experienced person for the position of municipal manager”.

The municipality posted the advertised position on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to the advertisement, the chosen candidate could earn between R1 million and R1.3 million.

The position is a five-year fixed-term contract linked to performance which ends a year after the next local government elections and can be renewable subject to negotiations.

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Public Administration or related field - postgraduate will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of five year’s work related experience at a senior management level in a local government or related environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the IDP.
  • Sound and solid financial management experience.
  • Knowledge of the MFMA, Municipal Systems Act, Municipal Structures Act, Labour Relations Act, Skills Development Act and other applicable legislation.

Competencies and/or key performance areas will include, but not limited to, strategic leadership and management; strategic financial management; operational financial management; governance, ethics and values in financial management; financial and performance reporting; risk and change management and project management.

The advertisement also said that the position advertised was subject to the performance agreement concluded annually, as provided for by the Municipal Systems Act.

The closing date for the position is April 29, 2022.
