Durban — A resident of oThongathi had to be transported to hospital after allegedly being shot by fleeing robbers.

On Saturday, Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) received a call for assistance at approximately 7.43pm from a resident requesting aid for an injured male.

Spokesperson Prem Balram said a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times by three suspects fleeing the scene of a robbery in Vanrova.

“On arrival, Rusa medics found the victim bleeding extensively from three gunshot wounds.It was established that the robbers held up a tuck shop in the area. They stole cash and a Flash airtime and data machine. They fired three shots as they fled from the business.

“The victim had confronted the men and allegedly questioned them with regard to discharging their weapons. The robbers then fired five shots in his direction. He was shot in both his legs and his buttocks,” said Balram.

He said that the wounded man fled to a nearby block of flats where he sought assistance.

“Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered. He was treated for his injuries before being transported to hospital by ambulance.”

Police were yet to comment.
