Durban — A suspect who has been terrorising fuel stations was stopped in his tracks recently when the Durban metro police service arrested him.
Metro police Senior Superintendent Boysie Zungu said early on Monday, information was received regarding a suspect who was targeting and terrorising fuel stations by committing armed robberies involving a firearm.
He said that information was received that the suspect was going to arrive at the Engen garage on Underwood Road in the Sarnia area in Pinetown.
Zungu said Durban metro police officers went to the area and kept observation for the suspect. While observing, they contacted Pinetown Trio Crime members and informed them about the situation.
“The suspect eventually arrived and was immediately arrested and after some persuasion, they proceeded to the suspect’s residence where a firearm was recovered as well as all clothing that was used when he committed the robberies,” Zungu said.
“The suspect has been committing armed robberies over a period of six months or more.”
Zungu said the suspect was taken to the Pinetown police station where he was detained and handed over to the Trio Crimes detectives who were going to link him accordingly to:
- Hillcrest SAPS CAS armed robbery with a firearm at Stamford Hill Engen garage.
- Armed robbery with a firearm, Durban central Engen garage.
- Armed robbery with a firearm at Hillcrest Caltex.
- Armed robbery at Bluff Caltex garage.
- Armed robbery at KFC Waterfall.
- Armed robbery at Hillcrest BP.
Zungu said the suspect was detained at the Pinetown police station.
