Durban — A man and a woman were killed in a murder-suicide in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday night.

IPSS Medical Rescue managing director Dylan Meyrick said that on Friday night, the service received reports of a shooting in the Sundumbili area.

Meyrick said that reports from the scene indicated that a man, a traffic officer, and his girlfriend had got into an argument, leading to the man shooting his girlfriend in the head and then turning the gun on himself.

“On the arrival of paramedics, the man and his girlfriend were found lying in the road, both with a single gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics assessed the female and she was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene,” Meyrick said.

“The man was found to still be breathing and was treated by an IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support paramedic. He died en route to the hospital.”

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said police in Sundumbili were investigating cases of murder and and inquest following an incident in which the bodies of a man and a woman were found in the Bhidla area on Friday, December 2, 2022.

“It is alleged that the man fatally wounded the woman and also turned the gun on himself. Circumstances around the incident form part of police investigations,” Ngcobo said.
