In a thrilling twist for fans, popular telenovela actor Mbuso Khoza made a highly anticipated return earlier this month on the second season of Umkhokha: The Curse, after leaving in February 2024 to focus on his Podcast.
Khoza, who left audiences captivated with his portrayal of Maphalala, has hinted that viewers are in for an even more intense ride this season.
“I was also so excited for the comeback. Umaphalala has returned as a family man, but he will be tested to the core as a man of faith and culture,’’ teases Khoza.
In season 2, viewers will see his character grappling with making tough decisions, but also facing complex dynamics of his household and the broader power struggles within the ibandla.
Maphalala’s path is going to be anything but smooth as Khoza hints at the difficulties his character will have in keeping his wife and home in line, while resolving the nearing division within the iTempli leNkosi.
Adding to the drama, a new character will be creating some tension. Maphalala’s cunning sister-in-law and the second wife of Maphalala's younger brother, Bhekumuzi.
MaThwala, portrayed by renowned actress Sthandwa Nzuza, entered the scene with her own agenda, set to shake things up in the Maphalala household.
Described as a two-faced person who is not so nice, MaThwala, together with her husband have planned a hostile takeover of Maphalala’s household through harassing MaZungu who is Maphala’s wife. They were successful for a while, but viewers may anticipate seeing if their plan will succeed even further going forward or whether it will be stopped.
Her arrival promises to stir tension and create explosive confrontations that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
In addition to appearing on screen in the drama, Khoza won over many South Africans with his significant contributions to the show's overall music and the “Ikhaya lamaJudiya Umkhokha the Curse Album”.
