Gospel music continues to be a favourite among music lovers and South African artists are delivering music that is highly streamed by fans and gets radio airplay.

Multi-award-winning gospel singer Nontokozo Mkhize's debut studio album "Lindiwe" made waves in the industry by earning over 1 million streams on Spotify South Africa in its first week.

This accomplishment ties her with Tyla's album "TYLA" for the highest first-week entry for a debut studio album by a South African female artist in history on the SA Spotify Weekly Album Chart.

The Afro-soul singer and songwriter, whose real name is Nontokozo Hlengwa, began singing in 2017 as a vocal artist and has worked with artists such as Benjamin Dube, Mondli Ngcobo, Naima Kay, Dumi Mkokstad and Sjava.

Mkhize, who first gained recognition as a backing vocalist, is smashing records. Her hit single "Esandleni", is the most-streamed solo song by a female artist in a single week on Spotify South Africa, surpassing Adele's "Easy on Me".

The track has also secured a position in the top five of the Local Streaming Chart Top 10, according to the official South African charts, and has entered the top 10 on the Billboard South Africa rankings.

Multi-award-winning contemporary gospel singer Xolly Mncwango is also making waves on the music scene. Last year she released her second album “Unusual” a 21-track project. “This album is a celebration of love, faith, and the divine” shared the musician.

2024 was an amazing year for Mncwango; she won best female gospel artist at the 17th Crown Gospel Music Awards, she also won Best Gospel Streamed Song for her song “Ungukuphila” from her 2020 album “Jesus Is Enough”. On Spotify, “Ungukuphila” has been streamed 9 251 336 times.

Mncwango’s album “Unusual” won Best Contemporary Faith Album at the South African Music Awards 2024. In September, last year Mcwango hosted the Unusual Encounter concert at Carnival City, Ekurhuleni.
