Award-winning South African media personality Anele Mdoda recently attended the Toronto International Film Festival.

Mdoda’s production Rose and Oaks, which she co-owns with business partners Frankie du Toit and Paul Buys, featured their film “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight” at the renowned TIFF.

“It has been one amazing time here at TIFF,” Mdoda told IOL Entertainment.

“From the movies we watched, the people we met, experiencing Canada for the first time. The world film-making industry treats this festival as their head office.

“Decisions are made here and we are so blessed that we are one of the topics at hand.”

Mdoda is the executive producer on “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight”, and the film was adapted from the book by the same name.

Embeth Davidtz directed the film which stars eight-year-old newcomer, Lexi Venter, as the lead character named Bobo. Local talents Zikhona Bali, Fumani N. Shilubana, Rob van Vuuren and Anina Reed also star in the film.

“This means the world to Rose and Oaks as this labour of love has not been a walk in the park but with partners like Embeth David of Schindler’s List fame, she also directs and stars in it, this was a sublime ride.

“Also a massive shout out to the DTI!!!! They pushed us over the line on this one.”

Rose and Oaks is in its sixth year and has been delivering content that audiences are receiving well. Season 1 of “The Masked Singer” has received a South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) nomination for Best International Format.

“We are three partners at Rose and Oaks and to celebrate six years of us at the film festival with a Safta nomination for ‘Masked Singer’ is stuff dreams are made of but the highlight came in seeing our staff and cast be in those credits as the world clapped.

“We cannot wait to see how this will unfold,” added Mdoda.
