The new revamped “Muvhango'' makes its debut on SABC 2 screens on August 5 and as requested by viewers, season 27 will be “fancier, younger, fashionista, bold”.

The television series returns for its 27th season with fresh faces such as the legendary actress Leleti Khumalo, who will portray Dr Nonhlanhla Ximba, a former medical doctor turned successful businesswoman.

Dr. Ximba is set to make a dynamic entrance as wife of Avhatakali Ramabulana, played by Lloyd Nedohe and mother of Sakhile played by Tyson Mathonsi. They form a central figure in the gripping narrative of “Muvhango”.

Some characters such as Liteboho Molise, Lebo Tisane and Wiseman Zitha will also be returning but in an upgraded way.

Production company Word of Mouth, which is behind Muvhango, has been experiencing real-life drama. The SABC nearly pulled the plug on the long-running soapie, and the telenovela went off the air in July.

However, just like a telenovela storyline, the SABC and Word of Mouth were able to iron out their contractual disputes and reach an agreement.

At the relaunch last month, “Muvhango” creator Duma Ndlovu excitedly shared that the new season would give viewers all the drama they have been asking for.

“What you're going to be seeing this season is probably the most dramatic change and growth you’ve seen because our viewers demanded that we go fancier, younger, fashionista, bold.”

“They wanted us to continue telling stories, they didn't want us to lose the DNA of the show but they wanted us to spice things up.

“What you are going to see is us, responding to the spicing of things. We have a new logo, new title sequence and young people we are working with.”

"Muvhango" airs on SABC 2 at 9.pm.
