After a much anticipated wait of what many thought was the reunion, this past episode of "Married at first Sight Mzansi" was nothing short of underwhelming.
The local show follows four couples who said "I DO" to getting married at first sight. They share their journey as they experience marriage for the first time with someone who they know nothing about.
On Sunday night’s episode, viewers were met with an episode that gave reunion but at the same time it wasn’t.
Episode 13, dubbed on Showmax “Following decision day, the couples meet with the experts to reflect on their decisions and journey on the experiment.”
Hosting the sit down marriage reflection were three of the experts, gynaecologist and sexologist Dr Mpume Zenda and married couple Bakhe and Nokwanda Dlamini, who are marriage and family therapists.
The set up had four couches, one of them standing separate from the rest. Taking turns on the ‘hot seat’, they sat across from the experts to unpack on their marriages and reflected on certain moments that happened during the six weeks.
To a person who follows the show and has witnessed a lot of messy and emotional moments from the couples, it would be expected that the experts would nitpick on those moments to find out more on what the lessons the couples have learned and will take in their marriage going forward.
There were a few moments worthy of mentioning that they did bring up such as the game nights, but instead of getting views from both partners and then talking over the matter, it would be left to one person from the couple to answer for both and then moving on to the next matter, which seemed to be brushing over the matter at hand rather than fully unpacking it.
This episode did not reveal any mouth gasping information on the couples as what was said in the previous episodes was merely repeated in this episode.
Sebenzile Nyandeni cleared the air on what he meant when he said he still had feelings for his ex. His explanation to Boitshepo Mashetla was all he meant was he is the person that he is today in relationships because of his previous partner.
Makhumo Ngobeni was apologetic to some extent for the role she played in Thabang Mvuyani’s feelings getting hurt and her part in the marriage failing, but at the same time, she could not pinpoint exactly what she is sorry for.
Thami Nyandeni still managed to make Zithobile Sibiya cry in yet another episode. Just when she thought she knew where they stood as a couple her husband revealed that he was still unsure of the direction of the relationship.
Khutso Mokoena and Litsoanelo Seturumane seemed to still be trying to make things work, especially taking into consideration Seturumane’s relationship with her child’s father.
Towards the end of the show, snippets of the actual reunion were given. It will air next Sunday with actor and television personality Ntombi Mzolo as the host.
