Durban — Former president Jacob Zuma and current leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) urged young graduates to prioritise their nation as they embark on their professional journeys.

Speaking to a gathering of hopeful graduates benefiting from the Jacob Zuma RDP Education Trust on Sunday in Nkandla, north of KwaZulu-Natal, Zuma highlighted the vital role they should play in shaping South Africa’s future.

“Whatever happens, you must put your country first. You are our hope as our country grapples with many things that are setting us back. As young educated people, you must lead our country forward,” Zuma said, emphasising the importance of their contributions in addressing the multifaceted challenges that the nation currently faces.

During the event, Zuma also extended his generosity by donating to impoverished families, echoing his commitment to social responsibility.

“No family must go to bed without food. It is our duty as people to help one another where we can,” he stated, encouraging a spirit of community support and solidarity.

In addition, he announced plans for more such philanthropic events in the future through the Jacob Zuma Foundation and its allied organisations.

“We will be doing a lot of such events going into the future. We must uplift one another,” he said.

Zuma further encouraged the graduates to return to their communities and invest their knowledge and skills for the betterment of society.

“I am pleased that you have worked hard to achieve what you have achieved today. You must go back to your communities and help one another to make our country a better place,” he added, fostering a message of communal responsibility.

Among the graduates, Simiso Ngcobo shared his excitement about completing his diploma in Agriculture.

“I am happy that I got an opportunity to be part of the graduates who were aided by the JG Zuma Foundation. Today I am glad that I have finished my diploma in Agriculture and will now start to look for a job,” said Ngcobo.

The graduates were studying in FET colleges in KZN and the University of Zululand (UniZulu).

Zuma’s call to action, combined with his philanthropic efforts, highlights the ongoing need for unity and support as South Africa moves forward into uncertain times.
