You can’t go wrong with pastels. Just think of picturesque Neopolitan painted houses on the Med or delicious shades of ice cream and you can picture the palette perfectly.
Bubblegum pink, lemon, pistachio and berry aren’t just heavenly flavours to eat; they’re shades that look good in your home, too.
Pastels are a more imaginative backdrop than plain white, but can make a statement as a stylish, watered-down version of bolder colours. The only rule is not to overdo it otherwise you’ll end up with sugary overkill.
Claudia Roberts, founder of Runaway Coast, which sells homeware and textiles inspired by the Suffolk coast, loves pastels.
“They work so well in the home because they have a brightening effect yet they’re soft enough to blend in with other colours,” she says. “In the summer, sorbet shades are enticing because they bring the softness of the season into your home.”
Runaway Coast captures the look with its baby blue cushions and stripe fuchsia bedlinen.
The shuffle table by Mia Hamborg is eye-catching and playful: it’s reminiscent of Liquorice Allsorts in its colours as well as old-fashioned, painted wooden toys.
“Pastels are timeless,” says Hamborg. “Bright colours tend to be here today, gone tomorrow, while pastels blend in and last longer.” - Daily Mail
