Durban: Stormy weather has impacted electricity supply in several areas in KwaZulu-Natal.
Eskom said in a statement on Monday that severe storms with strong winds and heavy rain have caused widespread power outages.
The areas affected include parts of northern KZN and the Midlands: Nqutu, Nongoma, Dundee, Eshowe, Vryheid, Nkandla, Estcourt, Stanger, Mtubatuba, Kamberg, Marburg, Harding, Hluhluwe, Melmoth, Wartburg, Ladysmith, Richards Bay, Ixopo, Nottingham Road, Greytown, Kranskop, Inchanga, Richmond, Pongola and Dundee.
Eskom said its teams are working around the clock to assess the damage and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate our customers' patience during this time. Updates on restoration efforts will be provided regularly. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
The power utility also advised the public to avoid fallen cables, damaged infrastructure, or any hazardous situations and to report them to local authorities or Eskom.
Meanwhile the South African Weather Service has warned of isolated to scattered thundershowers over parts of KZN on Monday.
A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, damaging winds, and hail has been forecast.
