Durban - A group of armed men brazenly stormed into an electronics store in Overport on Thursday and robbed the business while a man was seen being assaulted by one of the suspects.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said Mayville SAPS were investigating the robbery.
Gwala said it was alleged that on September 22, at 10.10am a group of armed men entered the business premises in the Overport area.
“At gunpoint, the suspects took various items and fled the scene in their getaway vehicles,” she said
In CCTV footage of the robbery shared on the eThekwini Secure Facebook page, a man and a woman, who are believed to be employees of the store, are seen talking when a group of at least five suspects are seen entering the store.
A man is also seen standing at the entrance of the store talking on his cellphone.
After four of the suspects enter the store, the fifth suspect begins pulling the man at the entrance, inside the store.
Simultaneously, one of the suspects is seen pulling out what is believed to be a gun and he grabs the woman’s arm.
A struggle between the man at the entrance and the suspect ensues.
The armed suspect lets go of the woman and steps in to assist his accomplice to successfully drag the man inside the store.
The armed suspect is seen hitting the man on his head with the weapon and the man falls to the floor.
While the man is on his hands and knees, on the tiled floor, the suspect begins repeatedly kicking him.
The robbers force the people in the store to lie down on the floor.
