DURBAN – Stolen goods and cash were recovered after a high-speed chase between reaction officers and robbery suspects in Pietermaritzburg this week.

According to security company, Mi7 National Group, their officers were approached by a security guard who reported that an armed robbery had taken place at a petrol station convenience store on Commercial Road just before 9pm on Wednesday.

The guard reported that three culprits, travelling in a white Toyota Etios, had robbed the convenience store and fled in the vehicle.

“Mi7 Reaction officers immediately got to work, with teams strategically scouting the area for a vehicle matching the description. Eventually, the vehicle was spotted at the intersection of Church and Pine streets, where it appeared the driver had crashed.

“Two suspects escaped on foot while the driver took off again,” said the security company.

Mi7 said its officers gave chase in their vehicle and followed the vehicle to an informal settlement in Mpumuza.

“It was in this area that the driver again crashed the vehicle and escaped on foot. While various units were brought in to search for the suspects, a search of the abandoned vehicle resulted in the recovery of the goods and cash stolen from the store.”

Clips of the chase was shared by Mi7 National Group on Facebook and show at least two of its reaction vehicles chasing the suspects’ car.

The police have been approached for comment.
