DURBAN - ANC Provincial Chairman Sihle Zikalala and his wife Nelly stood in a queue at Manqondo, Ndwedwe Ward 11, waiting to cast their ballots for the local government elections.
Zikalala called on citizens to choose the ANC which he said was the custodian of their hopes and aspirations for a better life.
Zikalala said: “It is crucial for all South Africans - especially first-time voters and those who are undecided - to go out and cast their ballot. They must defend all the democratic gains that have been secured by our ANC-led Government, on behalf of all South Africans, and use their vote to invest in a brighter and more prosperous future.”
He said the party had done a lot to uplift people from abject poverty; and said the ANC was a party that admitted to its flaws, and had built a solid plan to correct them.
“A vote for the ANC in these local government elections means supporting our quest to build better communities. It means participating in a new order, where only councillors and mayors who are competent and committed are elected, having undergone a rigorous interview process.
“It will not be business as usual, as these elected community representatives will be made to sign performance agreements, and must be prepared to be subjected to lifestyle audits in order to prevent corruption,“ said Zikalala.
