Stuttgart, Germany - Porsche chief Matthias Mueller has criticised the German government for turning its back on the development of battery-powered cars in an interview with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
“The car industry pumps billions into electronic automobiles,” Mueller said, “and the government just watches.”
Other countries such as the Netherlands offer incentives to potential e-drivers and a greater network of charging stations.
Germany’s transport minister, Alexander Dobrindt, on the other hand, didn’t seem interested in the issue, Mueller said.
Porsche is currently developing its own battery-powered vehicle.
There were just under 19 000 electric cars on German roads at the start of 2015; despite this number increasing by 56 percent compared to the previous year, Germany is far from its goal of getting a million electronically powered vehicles on its roads by 2020.
