As much the spunky little hatchback has aged well, the Mazda2 is getting on in life and due for replacement soon.
Given that Mazda's new Hazumi concept is classed as a 'subcompact', there is little reason to doubt that it previews the next-generation Mazda2.
A partial front shot showing the headlights is all that Mazda is prepared to 'leak' for now, but the world will get to see the concept in all its glory when it gets unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
What the headlight shot does show is that the concept remains faithful to Mazda's latest design identity, which can be seen in the latest Mazda6 and Mazda3. Some interesting curvature in the side profile is also apparent.
Mazda will also use the Geneva show to reveal its all-new compact diesel engine, the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-D - which will in all likelihood end up beneath the bonnet of the new Mazda2 that we're speculating about.
