As the 2014 on-sale date for Porsche's 918 Spyder draws nearer, Porsche has told us exactly how fast it is when fitted with the optional Weissach package.
Porsche previously announced a 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds for the standard version of its petrol-electric hybrid supercar and has now divulged a sprint time of just 2.6 seconds for the Weissach version. This package will also get it to 200km/h in 7.2 seconds (0.5 seconds faster) and cuts 2.1 seconds off the 0-300 time, now 19.9s.
The upgrade gives a notable boost to this Porsche's electric-mode performance - now it can whoosh to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds without making use of the petrol engine at all. Now that we're talking green issues, the Weissach pack also reduces the vehicle's overall NEDC fuel consumption figure from 3.1 l/100km to three on the dot.
Porsche has already put the Weissach model through its paces around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where it achieved a lap time of 6m57s.
Porsche made extensive use of its motorsport knowhow when creating the 918, which features a race-car-like composite body that sits atop a rolling chassis formed by a tub and sub-frame.
Its hybrid drivetrain, which mates a 453kW 4.6-litre V8 to a 115kW electric motor, allows the car to travel for up to 30km on electric power alone.
