Stuttgart, Germany - For 911 fans who want more performance than the Carrera S, but without the single-minded racetrack focus of the GT3, Porsche brings us the second-generation 911 Carrera GTS, due in a Porsche showroom in November 2014.
Each of the four new 911 Carrera GTS models - a Coupé and a Cabriolet, available with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive - comes with a 3.8-litre 'boxer' flat six tuned to 316kW - 22kW more than the Carrera S, and the Sport Chrono package as standard issue, including dynamic engine mounts and active suspension management, which also lowers the car's ride height by 10mm.
When fitted with Porsche's Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch gearbox, the GTS will sprint off the line to 100km/h in four seconds flat - even the heavier Cabriolet can do it in 4.2 - and all four will top out at more than 300km/h, the champion in this arena being the rear-wheel drive variant with seven-speed manual 'box at 306km/h.
All GTS variants are based on the 911 Carrera 4 body with wide-flared rear wheel arches and a wider track, and roll on special 20” alloys with centre wheel locks, finished in black silk gloss.
The nose styling features special trim elements and smoked bi-xenon headlights, with the dynamic lighting system as standard, while the air intake grille on the rear engine lid features special GTS black trim strips and black chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes, on the standard sports exhaust system, which delivers what Porsche calls “aural distinction”.
The GTS' interior is finished in alcantara synthetic suede, with leather-trimmed sport seats, each with its centre panel also finished in alcantara, as on other Porsche GTS models.
