Gothenburg, Sweden - What you are looking at is a Volvo with serious attitude: the R-Design version of the new Volvo XC90.
The hottest XC90 features a special R-Design front spoiler, satin-finish metal window trim, dual siamesed tailpipes, bright roof rails and matte silver mirror housings; it rolls on 20” or optional 22” R-Design rims.
The driver-centric interior with R-Design sports seats in Nubuck textile and perforated leather, and perforated leather steering wheel also has special R-Design gearshift knob, pedals, floor mats and illuminated tread plates.
The driver also gets an exclusive R-Design leather key remote control. Even the tablet-like touch screen in the centre stack and 12.3” liquid-crystal driver display have special R-Design graphics.
MOTORVATION
The R-Design will be available with a range of standard XC90 Drive-E powertrains, up to 295kW, as part of Volvo's new trim strategy, with sees the Kinetic base model (which we won't see in South Africa) and Momentum mid-range spec, topped by two new flagship models - the elegant Inscription and the sporty R-Design.
The new Volvo XC90 - in Momentum and Inscription trim - is due for South African release in the third quarter of 2015, with the R-Design to follow shortly after.
