Sao Paulo - It’s been hot speculation for quite some time now that Toyota’s GR motorsport division would unleash a Ranger Raptor rivalling Hilux.
Well, GR has just released a version of the Hilux at the Sao Paulo Motor Show and it even looks like something that could take on the Raptor, but technically it’s not.
The Toyota Hilux GR Sport gets a boisterous body kit and stiffer suspension as well as revised steering, but beneath the bonnet is the familiar 2.8-litre D-4D turbodiesel with 130kW and 450Nm, mated to Toyota's proven four-wheel-drive system.
Stand-out styling features include a grille with Toyota block lettering, red bumper garnishes, wheel-arch cladding, bespoke black alloys and sports bar and colourful body graphics paired with Gazoo Racing logos.
Inside it gets black trim as well as GR badging and embroidery.
The GR Sport will be offered as a limited edition in Brazil, and currently there is no word on whether something similar will be offered in other markets.
