Zohar Ndlazi, the South African teacher who went to Thailand to work as a teacher and ended up homeless, had gained hope after numerous South Africans offered help.
She told IOL that she was provided shelter and possibly a job.
However, the tide has turned, as some netizens have come out claiming that she is a scammer.
Ndlazi has denied the claims and told IOL that she will pursue legal action against the individuals who she said are intending to defame her.
"Please be cautious. This woman is a scam artist. The articles going around about her being homeless here in Thailand are going viral. However, we have all tried to help her, but her stories don't make sense," a teacher in the Asian country posted online.
She added that some individuals offered to meet her, but Ndlazi supposedly did not show up. "She has taken a lot of money from people including myself."
However, Ndlazi disputed this and shared her bank statements with IOL.
"My Capitec bank Account statement has all the payers' names, they can say who got scammed what? I work with proof, and evidence and I am thankful for the bank's records," she said.
The statement shows that Ndlazi has R2,700 in her account.
Additionally, another teacher who claims to have been in the same hostel in Bangkok said in a voice note sent to IOL on WhatsApp that Ndlazi is not a scammer.
"She is not okay. She is not scamming people but has issues," he said.
In response, Ndlazi said she does not know the man nor his voice. "I don't even recognise the voice. I will take the person up for defamation of character."
The educator aims to be back in SA before her Thai Visa expires on March 1.
