Parliament has welcomed the deployment of the army at four Eskom power stations in Mpumalanga.
Chairperson of the portfolio committee on mineral resources and energy Zet Luzipho said on Sunday they feel vindicated by government’s decision to send the troops to the power stations as they had identified sabotage as one of the problems.

New leader will have to foster unity, says analyst
The new ANC leader, who will be elected by branches and other structures on Sunday, will have his work cut out as he will have to try to mend fences and reconcile all factions in a divided house.
This was the warning of Prof. Bheki Mngomezulu from the University of the Western Cape ahead of the results of the new party leader with his Top Seven leadership.

UPDATE: Voting for new ANC’s top seven delayed as allegations of vote buying swirl around
Much against anticipation that voting for the new ANC’s top seven officials would have started by 9am and concluded by 3pm and votes out around 5pm, the process has been severely delayed.
It is now likely that the voting will get under way around 7pm and run until midnight and results released in the early hours of Monday.

CONCLUSION: The first press conference for the day by the outgoing ANC national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, is now done. What is now clear is that voting for the new top seven is still hours away and results are likely to be known around midnight. Again, the conference is being tainted by allegations of vote buying, which Mabe says they have no conclusive information about.
UPDATE: Pule Mabe is now trying to spin around the issue of Nasrec being exempted from load-shedding while the entire country is ravaged by stage 6. He says the decision was not taken by the ANC, but as stated, it was taken after a request from the SAPS NatJoints to Johannesburg City Power. He absolves the ANC.
UPDATE: The press conference by outgoing ANC national spokesperson and TG candidate, Pule Mabe is still on. He is now clarifying the roles of the 1st and 2nd deputy secretary-general. He says there is a lot of work to be done by the two and there won't be duplication.
UPDATE: Outgoing ANC national spokesperson and TG candidate, Pule Mabe says there is a will on their side to stop vote buying during conferences. He clarifies the issues of slate, saying they are all about lobbying and there are attempts to completely eradicate them and promote unity.
UPDATE: On the allegations that both factions have been using money to buy votes from delegates, outgoing spokesperson, Pule Mabe says they don't have enough evidence to investigate and prove that - he asks for more information. He added that these allegations bring a credibility crisis for the ANC and the people that eventually get elected.
UPDATE: Asked whether their vote counting will be manual or electronic, outgoing spokesperson, Pule Mabe says the counting of ballots will be manual. He adds that their leagues and provinces will deploy their observers to ensure that there is no cheating.
UPDATE: Pule Mabe says after the announcement of the results of the top seven, they will open the floor for nominations for additional members (NEC) so that on Monday they vote. He adds that they have to cover much ground as possible.
UPDATE: Outgoing ANC national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, says right now what is happening in the plenary various organisations in alliance with the ANC both in SA and abroad are delivering their messages of support. After that, they will discuss various reports and adopt them. Thereafter the Elections Committee will outline how the voting will take place and break for lunch. Each province will be given time to vote at once.
