Workers and visitors at the City of Tshwane seeking spiritual solace now have a dedicated multi-faith prayer room at Tshwane House, the municipal headquarters, designed to cater for their well-being.
The establishment of a prayer room, according to MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi, provides a quiet and peaceful space for employees to practice their faith, reflect, and recharge during their workday.
Morodi said: “This initiative highlights our unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that respects and values the diverse needs of everyone who engages with our services.”
She explained that the prayer room will serve as a sanctuary where individuals can find a moment of peace, reflection and spiritual connection amidst their busy schedules.
“By offering a designated area for prayer, we aim to accommodate the diverse religious practices of our community, thus ensuring that everyone feels acknowledged and respected,” she said.
In addition, she said, the City has also created a dedicated lactation room in Tshwane House, which is available for use by its employees and visitors.
“The lactation room is a private, comfortable space where nursing mothers can express breast milk, breastfeed and care for their infants,” she said.
Morodi said providing the facility reflects the respect for the personal needs of working parents and aligns with global standards and best practices for workplace accommodations.
“When employees feel supported and their needs are met, they are happier, more productive and more engaged in their work,” she said.
She added that the City plans to replicate the creation of lactation rooms across all its buildings, ensuring that mothers throughout our City have access to the essential facility”.
“I invite all eligible individuals to use the dedicated rooms as needed, and we hope that this addition will have a positive impact on your experience at Tshwane House,” she said.
