Motsepe Foundation Championship side Durban City shocked Betway Premiership side TS Galaxy 2-1 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Friday night.

City, just seven months into existence, booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup as they came back from a goal down to overpower their much fancied Rockets.

Following a dreadful opening half, Galaxy broke the deadlock early in the second half with a goal by in-form striker Dzenan Zjamovic.

With the heavens and the match opening up, Puso Dithejane created room and inside the hosts’ box before looping a cross into the far post for the Bosnian forward to head into an open net.

The second division side were not prepared to accept defeat and roared back in the latter stages of the game and equalised in the 79th through their main man Joslin Kamatuka.

The Namibian born striker benefitted from chaos in the Galaxy box following a Ruzaigh Gamildien low cross and the ball ricocheted off the defender before hitting Kamatuka’s shin and into the net.

City completed their comeback when on-loan AmaZulu man Senzo ‘Mbhobho’ Ndlovu scored his side’s second, arriving late to place his header in the bottom corner.

Having put the domestic football space on notice with a resounding win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the league, Galaxy took their confidence to Durban against an on-form City.

With a slightly changed starting line ups on both teams, the rhythm of the match did not catch fire in the opening stanza as both sides tussled to gain control of the game.

As a result of the lag in quality, the opening 45 minutes only once had a major incident with the hosts hitting the back of the net but that attempt being ruled off as an offside in the opening ten minutes of the game.

It was in the second half where both teams upped the ante as the home team made four substitutions at half time with the Motsepe Foundation Championship leading scorer Joslin Kamatuka.

In the end City joined SuperSport United and Stellenbosch in the last eight of the competition.
