Caster Semenya powered her way into women’s 800m final winning her semi-final in an almost rehearsed manner with a time of one minute, 58.15 seconds.
Going into her second consecutive Olympic final the South African 800m record-holder has her sights set on winning the gold medal.
“Obviously the main thing was just to get through, so that I can go straight to the final,” Semenya said.
“So that is one step down and one more left to go.”
Semenya was the fastest of the qualifiers following the same tactics she has been using all year where she stayed in the middle only to launch her attack towards the last 150 metres of the race.
On her Olympic debut in London 2012 Semenya finished second behind Russia’s Mariya Savinova with a time of 1:57.23. - Independent Media
