Cape Town – After a relatively slow start, the Springbok Sevens side picked up the tempo to secure a semi-final spot after thrashing Wales 33-0.
Scoring was slow to follow after kick-off, but once the Blitzboks got going, they showed no signs of stopping in the first quarter-final of the day.
Wales, on the other hand, probably came close to scoring just once in the encounter, and the South Africans kept them inside their own half for the majority of the game with rock solid defence.
The Blitzboks got their first try when Kyle Brown snatched up a loose ball in midfield and sent it wide to try master Seabelo Senatla, who once again beat the Welsh defenders with his scary pace and a strong running line to open the scoring (5-0).
Senatla also had a hand in the South Africans' second try when he gained solid ground before passing to Cecil Afrika on his outside, who ran a short angle to dot down (12-0).
And just before half time, Ruhan Nel put in a chip kick in Wales' 22 that was gathered by Chris Dry, who dived over to give the Blitzboks a commanding lead at the break (19-0).
Werner Kok set up the Blitzboks' fourth try soon after the break as he broke a tackle and put some spectacular running on show, before handing the ball to Nel in the in-goal area to score the try (26-0).
It might have been over on the clock but it surely wasn't for Neil Powell's troops as Rosko Specman got one last try before the final whistle went. Specman broke through in own half and he was just too quick for the Welsh, who fell by his feet as he sniped through to score (33-0)
