Zimbabwean-born Dave Ewers is enjoying every moment of his time with the Stormers in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

The 34-year-old loose forward spent over a decade with Exeter Chiefs, before a move to Ulster as he finally settled in Cape Town.

The Stormers travel to Durban on Saturday to take on the Sharks as the URC resumes after the international break.

Though Ewers hasn’t been at the Stormers long, he explained it wasn’t a difficult transition.

Part of the family

“I am enjoying my time here; I arrived in August. Been here for four months now. The Stormers have been an awesome team to come to, very welcoming,” Ewers told SportsBoom.com.

"This place is quite different to Ulster and Exeter before that. What I found is that Stormers' attention to detail is right up there, everyone needs to know their roles. That is something as a new player coming into the environment, I had to try and get it right.”

Ewers was brought in to the Stormers as cover for the injured Evan Roos. He would be buoyed by starting in the number six jersey, as the Cape outfit announced their team on Friday.

Ahead of the team selection, Ewers said: “If I play, it would be an amazing experience.

“Obviously, we will be giving them respect by giving it our all this weekend. They are a group of boys coming in with a lot of confidence, it will be a massive challenge going to their stadium and performing there."

"I'm sure the boys are up for it!”

Having begun his Western Province rugby experience playing in the Currie Cup earlier this year, Ewers said the start to this new phase of his career had already been memorable.

"Motivation wise, of course I grew up in Zimbabwe and it was always a dream of mine to play in the Currie Cup in those days. Maybe Super Rugby too but times have changed with the URC now.

"Beginning of the season when I came across, playing in the Currie Cup games were seen as warm up games but those were serious life moments for me, and it was a great experience."
