The outspoken former Kaizer Chiefs player Junior Khanye has questioned Hugo Broo’s selection criteria after Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw against Congo in the African Cup of Nations qualifier in Brazzaville on Tuesday.

Bafana defeated Congo 5-0 in their first match in Gqeberha last week, entered the second leg with, aiming to claim maximum points to secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

However, a gutsy performance from the ‘Red Devils’ ended Bafana’s dreams of securing early qualification to the continental showpiece s Congo managed to salvage a draw. Bafana will have to wait a little longer to secure qualification, but they are still on track.

Speaking to iDiskiTV, Khanye questioned Broos about defender Nyiko Mobbie’s continued selection to the national team, adding that Broos did not believe in ball players.

“I don’t know what Nyiko Mobbie has done to be there (in the national team) I really want to know.

“There is this boy from Orlando Pirates, I’m not too sure if he is injured or not Deano van Rooyen..... he is among the best in the country,” Khanye said.

Khanye further criticized the Belgian's defensive approach, stating that there was no need for many defensive players on the team. Broos added Mobbie and Thapelo Morena in the second half as he consolidated the draw.

“It’s goes with the selection I think the coach is lying to us and I have problem with Hugo Broos.

“He is person who copies and pastes because he does not believe in ball players, you can’t put so many defenders, you have three 2 or three right backs.

“You were leading 5-0 here at home it’s unnecessary, just manage the game. You had Relebohile Mofokeng on the bench he is one best talents in the country”.

Khanye added that should Broos continue with selections and style of play, Bafana will not win the Afcon.

“This tells us that the way the coach playing, selecting players and his substitutions we will not win the Afcon we will be there to add numbers” Khanye said.

Bafana are currently second with eight points in Group K behind Uganda, and they need just three points in their next two encounters to book their spot at the Afcon tournament.
