Durban City and Stellenbosch FC locked horns in nail biting 0-0 draw at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday night.
The first 15 minutes of the match looked fairly one sided as Durban imposed themselves on the Stellenbosch defence.
The home team had an early scare but luckily for them Stellenbosch couldn't convert those free balls inside the penalty area.
The Nedbank Cup champions couldn't piece together a final touches good enough to find the back of the net though. Stellenbosch chased the game in the opening sequences, with a few opportunities but not much of it.
Terrance Mashego looked dangerous cutting down the left flank, asking questions of the Stellies defence.
Trevor Mokwena missed the first clear chance in goal in the 26th minute as a deluge started to fall over Chatsworth Stadium. Durban's attacking intensity seemed to overpower Stellies at times. The rain started pelting down at the half hour mark, throwing a spanner into the works in what already looked like a tight game.
The Durban back line had a brilliant first half at the back, axing any Stellenbosch movement inside their half. Mokwena kicked off the second half in the same attacking fashion, putting a shot at goal just over the bar. Stellenbosch down to ten men in the 53rd minute after Mthetheleli Mthiyane got second a yellow card.
The game got into a midfield battle by the hour mark. Durban didn't immediately take advantage of Stellenbosch's ten men. Even with the ten men, Stellenbosch seemed to find a way forward into the Durban box.
The game consolidated to the centre of the pitch as both defences looked impenetrable. Jean Lwamba got closed down before he could find any worthy space and keep his scoring form on.
Despite Durban dominating the match, the couldn't find the breakthrough needed to take the lead , ending on a deadlock draw with both sides taking a point a piece.
