It’s about time that the future of Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune was confirmed, but according to reports on Tuesday that is anything but the case.

According to a report, Khune himself does not seem to know what his future holds.

Khune’s contract with Chiefs came to an end in June, and the club have been extremely vague on the matter of his continued association with the Soweto Giants.

The 37-year-old former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, remains adamant he still has time left in his playing career.

‘Rather speak to Chiefs’

Khune responded to Sowetan Live when asked about his future: “I don’t want to be quoted on this issue. Rather speak to Chiefs,” he said.

In May, Khune was honoured for spending 25 years at the club. However, what should have been a momentous occasion but that was not the case.

Two days before their DStv Premiership match against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium, Chiefs announced they would be celebrating the milestone achievement of Khune.

But Chiefs, who were battling to remain in the top eight at the time - they would go on to finish 10th in the league - had just a few fans attend their match at the gigantic FNB Stadium.

That the match also ended in a goalless draw also illustrated that it was best for fans to catch the game on TV rather, if at all.

Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson, sought to explain why fans did not come to cheer on their team and honour the keeper who began his youth career with the club in 1999.

Johnson went on to suggest that most fans probably did not know that Khune was even being honoured.
