Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro believes that there is no league better than the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in Africa, as the Buccaneers strive to make their mark on the continent this season.
The Spanish tactician said that in terms of quality and speed of the games, there was no other league better than the PSL.
“We as a country and as a league cannot feel less than than any other league in the continent. Honestly, I don’t think in this continent there’s any other league better than the PSL,” said the Spaniard on PrimeSportsWithMahlatse on Youtube.
Riveiro also mentioned that for PSL teams to be successful on the continent, they may have to be more pragmatic in their approach when playing in the last stages of the competition.
“There are other sides of the game that we need to be better if we want to succeed in this type of tournament.
“Away games, environment and all the things that are possible in a game in Africa on the continent. If you manage to stay focused and not play occasion or into fall into traps and get distracted in those tough games.
“Knowing that when you go through the group stages and you start to go forward, you’re probably not going to play beautiful football anymore. You need to pragmatic,” Riveiro added.
The Soweto giants thumped Madagascar's Disciples FC 4-0 to progress to the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round last Friday.
The club's supporters will be hoping Riveiro and his charges can put up a better showing this time around after failing at this stage of the competition last season.
