OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT's accessibility by making its API available to developers. This allows them to create custom applications or bots for messaging platforms like WhatsApp.

And with that came its integration into the Meta-owned WhatsApp, a widely used messaging app with over 2.7 billion users worldwide.

This integration allows users to interact with ChatGPT directly within WhatsApp, making the AI-powered assistance more readily available, especially for those with low-data connections or limited phone storage.

The key differentiator that enhances ChatGPT's appeal over Meta’s built-in AI tool, which serves a similar purpose, is its integration of image and voice support on WhatsApp. These enhancements align its features more closely with the standard website and app versions of the chatbot.

With the newly added picture support, you can send images to ChatGPT and ask it things like, “Hey, can you help me describe this?”, and upload pictures for identification, or images of ingredients to receive cooking suggestions.

The voice feature allows users to avoid typing out every sentence, making it convenient for those who prefer to express themselves verbally or are on the go. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who often send voice messages to friends.

ChatGPT processes these voice inputs and responds in text format within the chat.

To start messaging back and forth with ChatGPT on WhatsApp, all you have to do is save and start a chat with the phone number 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478).
